There have been rumours for years that the Technics SL-1210/1200 turntable series will be taken out of production. Now this nightmare seems to become reality. According to the Australian INTHEMIX-magazine Panasonic, the company behind the Technics brand, has now decided to stop the production in February of 2010. There is still a lot of confusion in all the DJ communities all over the web, as up to now no real reliable anouncement can be found.
The German mag Electronic Beats reportedly talked to the German Panasonic branch which did not know about this and just mentioned that it's maybe affecting the Ozeanic market only.
Nevertheless this rumour and all the fuzz it is creating shows the importance of this turntable. It's just a piece of electronics, created to let plastic-discs rotate, but still changed the way music was presented and manipulated. Without it todays club-, dance- and DJ scene as we all know and love would just not be possible. No Turnablism without the MKIIs!
Even the London Museum of Science holds one which shows it's significance.
